Amazon has launched a new Compliance Reference tool inside Seller Central that gives sellers a centralized place to research product compliance obligations before listing or shipping inventory. The tool consolidates import and export regulations, product-specific standards, and country-level requirements into a single interface — replacing the patchwork of external research that sellers have historically relied on to stay compliant.

• Country-specific regulation lookup — The tool surfaces import and export rules based on the seller's origin country and target marketplace, which is particularly useful for cross-border sellers navigating different jurisdictions.
• Initial product category coverage — Launch categories include toys, baby products, and items containing lithium batteries, all of which carry well-established and strictly enforced compliance requirements on Amazon.
• Planned expansion — Amazon intends to add additional regulated product categories over the next six months, with notifications sent to sellers as new categories go live.

How It Works

When a seller looks up a product category in the tool, it returns the relevant compliance requirements for that item in a given marketplace. This includes certifications, testing standards, labeling rules, and required documentation. The practical value becomes clear in cross-border scenarios: a children's toy sold in the US requires CPSIA testing and certification, while the same product in the EU falls under the Toy Safety Directive with entirely different standards. The tool surfaces these differences so sellers can plan ahead rather than discovering compliance gaps after inventory is already in transit or listed.

The tool is accessible directly through Seller Central and does not require any additional subscriptions or software. Sellers can use it during the product research phase, before placing manufacturing orders, or when evaluating expansion into new Amazon marketplaces.
