Amazon is actively enforcing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules for electrical and electronic equipment sold on its German marketplace. Sellers who haven't uploaded a valid WEEE registration number to Seller Central are seeing their listings deactivated, and the platform shows no signs of slowing down enforcement. If you sell anything with a battery, plug, or solar panel on Amazon.de, this directly affects your business.

What's Changing

• Mandatory compliance verification — Amazon is now legally obligated to confirm that sellers of electrical and electronic goods in Germany meet EPR WEEE requirements before allowing listings to remain active.
• Listings already being removed — Enforcement isn't theoretical. Amazon has been deactivating non-compliant listings, with full enforcement in place since mid-2023.
• Registration number required — Every affected seller must hold a valid WEEE Reg.-Nr. issued by stiftung ear, Germany's official WEEE authority, and upload it to Seller Central.
• Authorized representative rules — Sellers using a third-party representative must ensure that representative appears on stiftung ear's approved list, or the registration number will be rejected.

Who Needs to Act

This applies to any seller listing electrical or electronic products on Amazon.de. The scope of WEEE classification is broader than many sellers realize — it covers consumer electronics, household appliances, lighting, IT and telecom devices, power tools, toys with electronic components, and monitoring instruments. The general rule: if a product needs a power source of any kind, it likely falls under WEEE.

Sellers who manufacture, import, or first place electrical products on the German market are classified as producers and carry direct registration responsibility. Resellers must obtain the WEEE Reg.-Nr. from their suppliers and submit those numbers through Seller Central. Either way, the registration number must be on file.

How to Get Compliant

The first step is determining whether you're classified as a producer or reseller under German WEEE law. Producers need to register directly with stiftung ear and obtain a registration number for each brand and equipment type combination they sell. That number then gets uploaded through the EPR compliance portal in Seller Central.
